Big Ben and London Eye

London Calling: Adventure with Teens Itinerary

The itinerary for our one week family trip to London in July 2016 with kids ages 16 and 14.  Highlights included creating our own Amazing Race competition, a day out in Dover, and the new Harry Potter play.  Check out our post on Trip Planning.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Low key day spent checking in to the apartment, wandering Covent Garden, and exploring our section of Marylebone.

Day 2: Get the Lay of the Land

Great bike tour where we saw the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace in addition to a ton of the major sites, then toured the Churchill War Rooms.

Day 3: Tower Power

Took the Beefeater tour at the Tower before exploring further on our own.  Then stopped in at the British Museum to check out the Rosetta Stone and ended up spontaneously creating our own Amazing Race challenge.

Day 4: Greenwich

Cruised down the river to Greenwich where we stood on the International Date Line and enjoyed the museum.

Day 5: Dover and Out

Awesome day in Dover exploring the cliffs, the Fan Bay Deep Shelter (essentially a WWII bunker), and the castle.

Day 6: Amazing Race Afegirls Style

We had so much fun “racing” at the British Museum that we created another race all over the city, then wrapped up the day with a ride on the London Eye and enjoyed taking a last look at the sights of the city.

  • Amazing Race
  • Lunch near Trafalgar Square
  • London Eye
  • Dinner at Truscott Arms in Maida Vale (now closed)
  • Walk along canals

Day 7: HARRY POTTER!!!

The day we had all been looking for finally arrived, and it didn’t disappoint!

Day 8: Departure Day
