Gift Guide for People who Love the Outdoors
Welcome to our first ever gift guide!
We thought we’d start with the outdoorsy people. They can be tough, because they tend to buy the stuff they really need for themselves, but here are some ideas that may surprise them!
Disclosure: We may earn a small commission for our endorsement, recommendation, testimonial, and/or link to any products or services from this website. Your purchase helps support our blog. And earns you our undying love. (You can read more details of these affiliate programs on our “About Us” page.)
1 — Who doesn’t love a good t-shirt? This one let’s the hiker in your life shout out their passion. (Actually, there are tons of awesome t-shirt options — go forth and get lost in t-shirt browsing.) Hike It. Like It Tshirt
2 — Do you know Adventure Journal? It’s an on-line adventure magazine that comes out with great content daily — Afegirls are addicted. They ALSO publish a quarterly print mag AND you can order back issues. The photography alone is amazing and the articles are well worth reading. Check them out! Adventure Journal Subscription and Back Issues
3 — This one’s more for the backpacker or camper in your life. It’s an ultra lightweight mug for their morning cup of joe. Also has measurement marks. We have no idea why you need those, but it has them. Also a cloth case. Score! Titanium Cup (450ml) Camping Mug With Measurement Marks
4 — Okay, we get that convertible pants may be slightly questionable from a fashion point of view. But there’s nothing better from a hiking point of view! Cold in the morning? No worries; you’re wearing pants. Hot in the afternoon? Voila! They’re shorts! Columbia Men’s Backcast Convertible Pant
5 — Don’t know what these are? They’re GoTenna’s! They basically let you create your own wifi network, on your phones! — super useful in areas that don’t have cell service. Like mountains. Hiking
with people at a different pace? As long as everyone has a GoTenna, you never lose touch! Can also be used for GPS. WE LOVE THEM! goTenna – text & GPS on your phone, no service required
Note that they are sold in pairs.
6 — This, friends, is an Oru Kayak. IT FOLDS UP. Want to hike to a remote lake or river and kayak? You need an Oru. On a road trip with limited storage, but really want to bring your kayak? Again, you need an Oru. (Dan, if you’re reading this, I REALLY want an Oru kayak. They’re just so cool!) Oru Kayak Beach LT Folding Portable Lightweight Kayak
7 — Best doggy water bottle ever! If you hike with your dog, you can’t rely on finding water your dog can drink — you have to pack it in. Too many times we’ve failed to remember this (oh, there will be a stream!), and had to give Cody water from our water bottles. Since he can’t actually drink from the bottle, you have to use the cap as a kind of bowl, and then the water bottle becomes pretty useless to the humans on the hike. We love him, but ewwww! This one is all his own, and the cap is shaped to fit a dog’s mouth. Problem solved! This has changed our lives!! Or at least our hikes. H2O4K9, Dog Water Bottle and Travel Bowl,
8 — Perfect outdoor rain shell. Because it compresses to the size of a granola bar! We love these things. Fold into nothing and easy to take anywhere and everywhere. As a result, we take them anywhere and everywhere. They come in a men’s cut and a women’s cut, and a ton of cool colors including the neon green in the collage and this blue-grey. Outdoor Research helium ii jacket
9 — If you’re going backcountry for any length of time — whether by foot, pedal or paddle — you are going to need a solar charger. This one from Goal Zero comes with some nice extras. Goal Zero Switch 10 Recharger with Nomad 7 Solar Panel and Multi-Tool Kit
10 — A Camelbak (essentially a hydration pack) is another must-have item for any outdoor adventure. Take our advice, and get one that can also carry other stuff. You’re going to need more than just water! CamelBak M.U.L.E. LR Hydration Pack
A final note on . . . Ebates!
Are you using Ebates? If not, you should be! It gives you cash back on purchasers from most major online retailers. Just sign up, and then, before you start an online shopping session, go to Ebates first. (This is important — you usually won’t get cash back for items already in your cart!) I was a skeptic, but it really works!!
